A perfect bolt hole from which to explore this part of the Hebrides.  The white beaches, hills and landscape did not disappoint.  We really admired the craftsmanship which is evident in this restored and modernised Tigh Dubh and very much appreciated the attention to detail and generosity of spirit evident in all the wee touches.

23rd July 2016

Best cottage in the Uists.  Quality furnishings and equipment.  A little haven in the wet and misty weather.  Much appreciated base to come back to.  Recommend MacLennans supermarket at Balivanich to future residents.  Love the coloured lights in the bath.

Fantastic week soaking up the rays in  Eriskay, North Uist, Berneray and South Uist doing many of Monty Halls walks (take a map too).  Heard Corncrakes everyday – but no sightings.  Katie this is heaven thanks

27th May 2016

A wonderful week - helped by sunshine and the lack of midges and the cottage.  A lovely place to stay and come back to after a day walking the beaches and mountains.  Enjoyed our visit to the Uists hugely.  Thank you for a great place to stay.

21st May 2016

We’ve had a wonderful time exploring the islands – we’ve been up to Lewis and down to Vatersay and all of them in between.  The wildlife is wonderful and the beaches beautiful.  We’ve had days on the beach in the sun and others tucked up snug in the cottage.  Thank you for the wonderful welcome pack, we’ve enjoyed staying in your wonderful cottage.

14th May 2016

Thanks Katie for your kind hospitality.  Can only reiterate ++ what others have said.  Especially enjoyed walk along local beach (by Jewellery place) when tide is out it spectacular.  Added bonus – sun shone.  Leaving feeling relaxed and restored.

7th May 2016

A gem of a cottage.  Perfect in every way to celebrate our silver anniversary and a birthday.  Smashing place.

16th April 2016

Thank you Katie for your hospitality.  The cottage is so comfortable.  Everything has been thought of.  The‘welcome pack’ was delightful.  These islands are wonderful.  The contrast between east and west is remarkable.  2 weeks of sunshine have no doubt helped our appreciation.  We’ve seen eagles, falcons, deer, seals and several otters as well as ’62 different’ species of birds.  The mountains of Uist may not be amongst the highest in Scotland but they provide some of the best summit views I’ve experienced.  Many thanks for 2 great weeks.

16th January 2016

A very enjoyable week, lovely islands and the accommodation very special.  Many thanks and hope to return soon.

29th October 2015

We love it:- Great cottage, warm welcome and fabulous treats.  Thank you Katie.  It is so beautiful here wherever you look  …. We love the beaches, loch’s, walks, crafts, morning school walk, sunrises, sunsets, people and clear blue skies.  Best UK holiday ever! Great way to celebrate our silver anniversary.

26th September 2015

Thank you Katie for your warm welcome and gift basket, it was a lovely treat.  We have had an amazing week of walks, beaches and wildlife spotting.  Thank you for your advice on where to visit.  The week was topped off by being able to come back to your lovely cottage each day.  Thank you for everything.

19th September 2015

What a beautiful cottage, Katie & John thank you so much for restoring this cottage its done to such a high standard and you have thought of everything.  The welcome pack was fabulous! Had a great time visiting Berneray seeing quaint cottages and Eriskay where we would recommend a little beach beside the Barra ferry, collected lots of beautiful fem shells.  We ate at Langass Lodge where the menu changes daily and it was so tasty we went twice.  Heard the illusive corncrake once but didn’t see it.  Gorgeous night sky with milky way, aurora and meteors to be seen.

15th September 2015

We never write comments in guest books.  But Corrodale is exceptional even down to the smallest detail.

29th August 2015

Brilliant, the accommodation is simply excellent and generosity much appreciated.  Had a great time.

15th August 2015

We have never been to the Outer Hebrides before and were blown away by  the rugged beauty and warmth of these islands.  The walks are stunning and the wildlife beautiful .  Corrodale Cottage is a perfect retreat and base to explore from, yet relaxed at the same time.  Do go on the Lady Anne boat trip from Kallin, Nick is such a kind and knowledgeable skipper.  Huge thanks to Katie for her warm welcome and of course the gorgeous hamper of seafood treats and bubbly.  The perfect place to celebrate our paper anniversary.

8th August 2015

Our 4th stay in your fabulous escape.  Thanks yet again for an amazing fortnight.   Made lots of new discoveries and still many more places to explore next summer.  Your hospitality and kindness have yet again been second to none and we can’t wait to be back in 2016.  Many thanks

25th July 2015

An excellent week at Corrodale, Thank you for the welcome including those splendid provisions, flower, peat fire etc.  A delightful cottage where you have thought of and provided everything we needed.  Fascinated by the ever changing weather conditions and we have enjoyed some lovely sunshine – a rare event in 2015!  We have visited the Uists, Benecula and Barra.  Now we move onto Lewis for a couple of weeks.  Thank you for everything including letting our King Charles spaniel stay.  He has enjoyed some wonderful runs on the beaches.  PS the only otter we saw was a twin otter landing on Barra beach.

18th July 2015

Thank you for your wonderful welcome Katie, the lovely treats were very much appreciated.  Cottage was superb.  We enjoyed lovely sunshine for all but the last day – beautiful beaches.  Thank you.

10th July 2015

We have had a wonderful week with our little girl at the cottage.  Spent many days exploring the beautiful beaches and looking for wildlife at Balranald.  The cottage had everything we could possibly need even a picnic basket for days out.  – thank you for the lovely treats on arrival after getting a tired baby to bed after our journey we really enjoyed the champers.  There was even a toy for the baby!  We had great times discovering more about our country and Corrodale made it extra special.  Will recommend to fam and friends.  Thanks for all your help Katie & John.  P.S Lovely cappuccino and coffee cake at the Hebridean Jewellery shop café.

27th June 2015

Lovely cottage, very peaceful, peat fire, relaxing bath, the local foods in the hamper set theme as we sought out further examples from the local smokehouses etc.  Askernish Golf course was amazing, probably as good a layout as I have ever come across albeit extremely difficult.  The RSPB at Balranald on the Tuesday guided walk and also self guided, birds/flowers/machair and unique landscape/seascape.

20th June 2015

Another lovely stay – so pleased to have had the opportunity to come again.  Corrodale Cottage is warm, comfortable – home from home.  We have enjoyed 2 RSPB walks this time – one at Langass where we saw a variety of birds and deer on the far hills.  We also went golden eagle spotting – great fun.  A wonderful, restful week.  Thank you

13th June 2015

We have enjoyed a peaceful week here in South Uist, taking the opportunity to relax and enjoy the scenery and wildlife, with many stunning moments.  Our highlight was visiting Howmore in sunny weather (when we actually took our coats off) , walking on the beach and back along the edge of the machair and actually seeing a hen harrier there.  A spectacular moment shared just by us!  The tranquillity of the cottage was special to us and we loved sitting on the bench out of the wind listening to the elusive corncrakes.  We were delighted to see the fledgling wrens, which the adult had been feeding all week,  Thanks to Katie & John for your hospitality.

6th June 2015

There are 5 star cottages and there are 5 star cottages! Visit Scotland should introduce a higher quality mark for exceptional homes like Corrodale.  Is math sin,  Tapadh leibh.

30th May 2015

If you have been to Corrodale and South Uist before you know what to expect and look forward to.  If not, fasten your seatbelt and be prepared to be amazed!  This is our second time to Corrodale and more than ever, Katie and John have been exceptional in their kindness – they even took us sea fishing.  What a treat and we caught our own supper – 5 pollock.

The weather has been mixed, but as very keen walkers you have to watch the big skies and can judge when the rain is coming… but if caught in the rain be patient it will normally pass but will not always pass over.   We did several excellent walks with the RSPB and saw the corncrake and otters.  We really appreciate the wildlife more than ever.  If you are a golfer, you must play at Askernish.  You will never have another round like it again.  Superb.  We will be back.  Thank you Katie & John

23rd May 15

Thanks for a wonderful week at Corrodale.  Comments from other guests say it all and it is exceptional. We have been active each day but relaxed yesterday afternoon after sixteen hour day on Wednesday.  We finally made it to St Kilda after rising at 5am and returning at 9pm.  St Kilda is the only UK site with double World Heritage status and one of only 24 in the world along with Ayers Rock and Machu Picchu.  To see the village at Hista and the stacs at Boreray like cathedrals emerging from the Atlantic was quite moving.  Thanks for helping us plan the trip with Angus at Kilda Cruises.

16th May 2015

Our second visit to the Western Isles – our first to the Uists but definitely not our last.  This holiday has had everything we need – wild walks, wildlife, fabulous beaches and at the end of each day the most beautiful and well presented cottage to return to.  We’re already thinking about our next visit – we want to see the machair in flower.  Thanks to Katie & John for making the second week of Lynne’s retirement adventure so special.  Off to Lewis now and hopefully St Kilda if the weather is kind.

9th May 2015

We’ve thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in this lovely cottage in such an idyllic setting.  Thanks Katie for the champagne, fridge full of delicious goodies and the beautiful fresh flowers.  Despite the cold and windy start to the week, the cottage has been cosy and comfy, and we’ve been able to travel all over the Uists, Benbecula and Eriskay, admiring the amazing scenery – the beaches, lochs, moors, and mountains.  Lots of walking and birdwatching – we’ve managed to tick off 79 species!  Our first visit to the Western Isles will not be our last.

28th April 2015

Fantastic cottage superbly equipped.  All the extra touches made the difference.  Wonderful islands.  Some good weather, some bad weather and some in between allowed us to experience all the Uists and Barra had to offer.  (even snow)  We’ll spread the word and hope to be back.

24th April 2015

Wonderful time at a lovely cottage.  Appreciated all the ‘extras’ which made this a perfect stay.  Lucky to have some great weather.  We’ve seen over 45 different birds and loads more that did not stick around long enough to be identified.  Very much appreciated the binoculars and bird book.  Thanks for a very good holiday.

11th April 2015

Fantastic cottage,  so special.  Champagne, peat fire, fresh flowers and lovely foods ‘PERFECT’ .  Such a great base to explore from, long walks made extra special by coming back to a long soak in that great bath.  Thank you

29th March 2015

Thank you so much for a fabulous week.  Exceptional hospitality and everything we could have wished for on our Hebridean hide-away….. thank you

16th February 2015

This was our first trip to the Outer Hebrides and will not be our last!  Corrodale Cottage looked fantastic on the website so our expectations were high; on arrival we realised the lovely pictures do not do it justice!  We have loved staying in this 5 star accommodation.  Despite the weather we’ve also enjoyed exploring these fantastic islands and also recommend walking around Udal in North Uist (walk 1.2 in the book) as well as walks around Loch Sgiopart.  Thank you John and Katie for your wonderful property and hospitality.

7th February 2015

A return visit after 3 ½ years and Corrodale Cottage is every bit as lovely as before.  Lovely beach walks, lots of wildlife sightings including golden eagles land sea eagles.  Best of all were the cosy evenings by the fire! Thanks John and Katie for a wonderful relaxing week in your beautiful cottage – thanks too for the flowers, ‘goodies’ and champagne.

30th October 2014

We have enjoyed our time here.  The cottage is fabulous – warm, comfortable and relaxing.  The bubbly , flower and treats are an extra special touch and much appreciated.  We loved walking the hills and beaches despite the challenging weather.  My husband really enjoyed his trip down memory lane to the times when he lived here as a boy.  Thank you.

24th October 2014

Fantastic cottage – thank you for the welcome treats – they were very much appreciated.  Wonderful place to spend our honeymoon.  The island have so much to offer – scenery, wildlife, food and friendly people.  We have had an amazing time and look forward to sharing all the experiences with our family.  For future visitors – don’t forget to check out the night sky – so brilliant without pollution!

12th October 2015

Another wonderful week – the second time inside a year says it all.  Lovely day spent in Barra – can recommend the bus and its driver.  Fantastic wild life – especially on the east coast.   Thank you so much Katie & John for letting us stay in your lovely cottage once more.

4th October 2014

I haven’t been to the Outer Hebrides and South Uist/Benbecula in particular for 20 years since my days in the Army, when we used to come up from Dortmund Germany every year for 4-6 weeks firing camp.  I couldn’t have done better than pick Corrodale for 2 weeks of peace, relaxation and a little reminiscing.  Morag and I enjoyed the cottage and the amenities and a good few walks.  Beatuiful.  Thank you very much.

20th September 2014

What a fabulous stay we have had!  The cottage is superb, very tastefully decorated and such attention to detail.  Unfortunately the peat fire  has not had much use as the weather has been fabulous!  The wildlife and beaches here are second to none and we shall definitely return.  If only to see an elusive ‘otter’.  Thanks you very much for a lovely stay.

13th September 2014

Katie & John you have made a wonderful homely cottage, so well equipped to ensure a truly enjoyable Hebridean Isle stay.  A great base from which to walk and explore from Barra to North Uist.  Thank you both for your hospitality.

5th September 2014

A perfect little base to explore the islands – and to celebrate our Silver Wedding!  Every time I smell the peat fire, I think of whisky,  thanks for thinking of everything and looking after us so well.

29th August 2014

We can only endorse all the other wonderful comments from your previous guests – you deserve them all!  We have waited a long time to visit the Uists and Corrodale Cottage has enhanced our visit tremendously.  Thank you for your generosity: your wonderful welcome with all the treats and for enabling us to share this part of the world.  We leave here as fascinated with these islands as when we arrived and know we will return at some point in the future.

Highlights for us:- a return visit to Harris and to Donald John MacKay – ambassador for and weaver of Harris Tweed. – a lovely man. Visit to Barra and Vatersay on a truly beautiful sunny day, including watching the aeroplane arrive and depart from the beach.  Niall catching wild brown trout on his 2 days with a ghillie on lochs Stilligarry and Bornish – they were excellent.  Walks at Howmore, the RSPB reserve and the Udal peninsula on North Uist.  The bath.

“Tapadh leibh”

16th August 2014

Here again as we just can’t stay away.  Thanks so much for looking after us so well (again).  Can’t wait to be back next  summer.  You’ve created something really special and we absolutely love it!  Our souls are now topped up ready (almost) for the real world again!  Thanks so much to you both – John & Katie.  See you soon.

9th August 2014

This beautiful cottage in an idyllic location, provided everything we had hoped for and more!  You have truly thought of everything and your careful consideration of special touches were really appreciated.  We have felt very well looked after – thank you.  The scenery and wildlife is amazing – the only thing is we will need to return to try and see the elusive otters that refused to cooperate!  A very special time of refreshment – thank you again.

2nd August 2014

Amazing 3rd visit and just as fabulous.  See you soon.

19th July 2014

Thanks Katie for a great holiday we’ve had a wonderful week on Uist.  Your cosy cottage is an ideal base for exploring the island.

12th July 2014

That is number one scored off out list of places to visit.  The Outer Hebrides did not disappoint.  The cottage has been a perfect retreat to begin our first week of married life.  The cottage has everything we needed and more.  We would like to learn some Gaelic next time.  We are going to miss how fresh and sweet the air smells here.  A perfect start to our new life together.

5th July 2014

The cottage met all expectations as a highland retreat from our otherwise busy city lives.

28th June 2014

Thanks Katie for making the cottage so welcoming.  Great to be back on South Uist after10 years.

22nd June 2014

Best possible start to our honeymoon. We enjoyed a fantastic champagne breakfast on a beautiful morning looking out to the hills of South Uist! We had every luxury we could need and want and more. The cottage was a brilliant retreat after our busy wedding day. The spa bath was a huge help to our aching feet after all the dancing! Thank you for your generous hospitality, we had a beautiful stay.

18th June 2014

We’ve had a super stay at Corrodale – a delightful place, a real joy to be here. Thank you for all the luxuries and extras – very special indeed. We’ve loved the walking, beaches, wildlife-spotting and beautiful flowers. We will definitely look forward to returning because we haven’t explored enough of this beautiful area.

14th June 2014

Our first visit to the Uists and we have had a wonderful time in your fabulous cottage. Thank you for all the extra goodies, including the corncrake in the garden who was happy to show himself on our 2nd morning! We have thoroughly enjoyed both the wildlife and the scenery. Also the people have been really helpful and friendly.

7th June 2014

What a fabulous place to stay and unwind! The welcome and cottage was amazing!! Love the way the cottage has been restored and decorated…first rate. Mixed weather this week but it didn’t deter us from exploring and when the sun did come out wow, the beaches, the lochs, my camera is quite worn out! A wonderful stay, thank you.

31st May 2014

What a wonderful week! It started with a great welcome from Katie, and the cottage has everything you need. From the kitchen utensils, to the candles in the bathroom (and elsewhere) and fresh flowers in the hall and bedroom. Katie has thought of everything for the luxury stay. Whatever you do during the day, whatever the weather, it’s a romantic retreat to return to each evening. We enjoyed the 2 hour boat trip from Kallin harbour, cycle rides and walks around the beautiful islands and the Askernish Golf Club is recommended for golf enthusiasts. Highly recommended- thank you so much.

24th May 2014

Dear Katie and John, thank you very much for letting us live at your lovely cosy cottage for the last 2 weeks. We’re returning home relaxed and refreshed. The wildlife on the Islands and in the sea was impressive, the people are friendly (both natives and tourists) and the peat fire made for some memorable evenings in the cottage. We plan to return.

10th May2014

We arrived to inclement weather! By Monday the wind was strong enough to make walking difficult! But….we had the cottage and echo all comments! Then, the weather changed and we had fabulous walks at the RSPB on North Uist, Eriskay (finally saw seals and a buzzard) and then locally on South Uist. The corncrake has been very noisy – but elusive! Highlight? Being “mobbed” by lapwings as we walked across the machair at RSPB nature reserve. Thank you Katie and John for a very special week. P.S the only water otter we saw was a kettle!

3rd May 2014

We’ve had a wonderful week in this lovely cottage, our first visit to the Uists and won’t be our last.  We’ve had great weather and spoilt for choice in where to go and which walk to do!  Cottage is perfect, the peat fire and spa bath after a day in the great outdoors is a wonderful end to the day.

PS Got a glimpse of the elusive corncrake right opposite the cottage (think we must have startled him as he fluttered up out of the undergrowth)

26th April 2014

Completely agree with all comments about a great cottage.  Corncrakes arrived  Thursday (hooray).  Great weather enabled much exploration of islands.  RSPB (N Uist) worth a visit and eastern lochs on South Uist a must.  Lovely walks and appreciation of isolation.

19th May 2014

Thanks to John and Katie for a great week’s holiday.  This was our first visit to the Outer Hebrides after many years of holidaying on Mull and we will be back.  This is a great house even the power cut was adding to the adventure) well laid out with excellent facilities, giving the feeling of time island life with the trappings of luxury,  See you again.

11th April 2014

Thank you for a wonderful introduction to the Outer Hebrides.  I shall return!  The cottage is excellent and I hope that I did not damage the “technology” too severely.  Thank you for the food hamper and of course the whisky.  How did you know?

26th March 2014

Where do we begin!  Thank you Katie & John for having us in your wonderful cottage.  Thank you for the welcome, all the goodies, the flowers and champagne.  We have had a lovely time.

Highlights:  Sea eagle in Loch Aireort, otter in Loch Sgiobort, the beaches on Berneray, the charm of Eriskay, the lovely beach at Howmore - it was all delightful.  Thank you so much.  Please may we come again.

16th March 2014

We have had a fantastic time relaxing in this beautiful cottage.  The attention to detail is amazing, the location - just out of this world.  Wonderful breezy walks to clear the cobwebs away and lastly there is nothing like the smell of a peat fire burning away - I wish I could bottle it to take home.  Thank you.

3rd January 2014

Katie & John - thank you again for your kindness during my stay at your lovely cottage.  I have enjoyed my stay over the last few years here and hopefully see you in the future.

11th Oct 2013

Thank you for sharing this beautiful cottage in this beautiful location.  So cozy eating breakfast to the warmth of the peat stove.  It was the perfect place for us to stay as we experienced a "Highland" wedding of my cousins sone and his bride.  Beannachd Leibh.

2nd Oct 2013

3 1/2 days too short.  How lucky we were with the weather and what a lovely cottage.  Thoroughly enjoyed the champagne and fishy delights.  Lots of great walks.  Saw an otter, seal and lots of wildlife.  The beaches were superb.  We will definitely be back.  Thanks for a lovely break.

14th September 2013

A wonderful honeymoon week at Corrodale Cottage – we particularly enjoyed the peat fire and spa bath!  The cottage couldn’t be cosier, and we’re so glad we chose to spend this week here!

28th September 2013

We have had a wonderful fortnight in this fabulous cottage.  The wildlife and landscape are truly amazing.  Thanks for all the treats you gave us.

7th September 2013

What a beautiful cottage, superbly maintained and in an ideal position for exploring these amazing islands.  Thank you Katie & John for your warm welcome,  the flowers and delicious treats.  Shame about the weather for the first four days which seemed to even send the wildlife running for cover, but how  lucky we were to have such a cosy place to come home to.  How excited we were on Wednesday evening when the sun came out.  We practically ran down the road to the seashore to watch the beautiful sunset! These islands ‘lit up’ on Thursday and Friday and we have enjoyed seeing and walking in some amazing places.  Can we take the cottage home with us please?!

31st  August 2013

Beautiful cottage in perfect location.  Very welcoming with hamper of seafood and champagne which was very kind and thoughtful.  Explored the whole of North & South Uist.  Particularly enjoyed Eriskay & Barra with their stunning beaches.  Thanks for everything.

17th August 2013

The difference between here and any other holiday cottage is the attention to detail and all the little thoughtful touches that have made Corrodale Cottage home for the week – to say nothing of the champagne, flowers, etc etc ! Thank you so much for your wonderful friendly welcome – you are obviously very special people.  We will recommend this beautiful cottage to all our friends.

10th August 2013

Our second stay in this fabulous cottage.  A superb two weeks.  Cannot fault the islands, cottage or hospitality!  See you again next summer.

27th July 2013

A lovely cosy cottage with all amenities and more.  Thank you for all the treats!  We have had an amazing week and have fallen in love with the islands of the Outer Hebrides!  We will be back!  Many thanks for sharing your cottage and islands with us.

We have had a fantastic holiday, what a beautiful place and lovely people to match.  Your cottage is just something else, a wonderful getaway, it really is just beautiful.  Thank you so much for all your little touches, they were really very special.  Have a great summer.

29th June 2013

We felt very privileged to be able to share your lovely cottage for a week.  You have thought of every detail and we were thoroughly pampered.  This is a little bit of heaven on earth and we rate it as one of our most enjoyable holidays.  Thanks you both so much.

22nd June 2013

Beautiful cottage on idyllic set of islands!  Berneray has the most wonderful beach in the Uk. Stunning scenery cycling from   Berneray to Balranald.  Incredible views from  Beinn Mhor and a superb ridge walk.  Seen golden eagles, short-eared owl, hen harrier, buzzard, many sea-birds and a corncrake as a next door neighbour!

15th June 2013

First visit to the Outer Hebrides and definitely won’t be our last.  Such a beautiful stunning place.  When we arrived it was so warm and sunny we had to buy sun cream! We’ve been amazed by what we’ve seen – dolphins, seals, eagle and to top it all we saw an otter!.  This  truly is an inspiring, relaxing place and it was lovely to come back to the cottage – loved the bath!  Thank you for the crab claws – they were delicious.  Really don’t want to go home tomorrow and back to reality.  Thanks for everything.

8th June 2013

What an amazing cottage and wonderful hosts.  Thank you Katie for a lovely welcome and all the Hebridean goodies, and to John for his interesting chats.  The wildlife and scenery in the Uists are second to none, even our weather was beautiful.  We have had  lovely walks on beaches and round mountains.  We will definately tell our friends about ‘Corrodale Cottage'.  I think John and Katie have thought about everything, there is nothing that we have wanted that wasn’t in the cottage, and I would suggest if anyone can think of anything that they require that isn’t here they should audition for ‘pointless’.   Thank you Katie and John.

1st June 2013

What a wonderful welcome.  Roaring fire, champagne on ice and a lovely hamper of Hebridean goodies in the fridge. Thank you so much Katie. The cottage is a ‘gem’ in all senses.

We have had a wonderful week exploring every nook and crannie on the Uists. Wonderful walks, great birdlife and wildlife. It has been fantastic and it is with sadness that we have to pack up and leave.

We will certainly recommend Corrodale Cottage to family and friends.

25th May 2013

Thank you for the delights of this perfect cottage, together with the unexpected welcome of chilled champagne, seafood and flowers.  The spa bath has been a revelation!

The wondrous variety of landscapes and birdlife has been a constant pleasure and this part of the Outer Hebrides has exceeded our expectations, even with mixed weather.  We too recommend a day out with Steve Duffield and we shared with him the sighting and hearing of a (rare) Marsh Warbler in Loch Ainort.

The TV even put on programmes about the Hebrides & Oban! So we have been totally immersed in this rich area.

We hope to come back and see the machair flowers in bloom – they’re delayed this year.

18th May 2013

Many thanks to Katie & John for providing such a well-appointed retreat for our 2 weeks here.   We have enjoyed the wildlife, the walking and even the weather and on the one day that was too wet and windy even for gore-tex, we enjoyed all the comforts of Corrodale Cottage.

We had a great day with Steve Duffield (Hebrides best guide!)  www.western-isles-wildlife.com)  and saw otters, eagles, hen harriers amongst others and got great info about where to go and see things.  Balranald RSPB Reserve worth a visit and RSPB raptor walk from Benbecula Recyling Centre ( 8pm) yielded merlin, M+F hen harriers and short eared owl within 5 minutes of leaving car park and ended with black throated divers on the loch.  Keep an eye out for red deer in the field behind the cottage, plus buzzards and even an eagle when weather on mountains is bad.

Monty Halls walks on Berneray and Eriskay are worth doing but our  favourite was the North Uist walk and the stunning beach and machair at Traigh Udal, and Machair Leathainn.  A snowy owl is at Sollas.

Our one regret that we did not see a corncrake despite hearing them all down the road from the cottage to Hebridean Jewellery.

4th May 2013

We have had a fantastic time – thank you for all the extra touches, flowers, seafood, champagne!  Beaches were amazing and great to come back to a peat fire.  Thanks again.

27th April 2013

We have had a wonderful week here at Corrodale!  The cottage is of the highest quality throughout and care and thoughtfulness given is unparalleled.  After days of exploring the islands and walking miles in extremely wild weather, our evenings here were looked forward to and thoroughly enjoyed.  We’ll miss the comfort and cosy peat fire.  Thank you for all.

20th March 2013

Dear Katie & John, What can I say?  A wonderful welcome, fantastic cottage, beautiful islands;  we have had the best time ever - wildlife, food, glorious views and good weather.  Our stay at Corrodale Cottage topped off a perfect experience in the Outer Hebrides.  Thank you so much.

14th  March 2013

Katie greeted us with the warmest welcome and the fire on.  We explored this absolutely stunning cottage and found a multitude of treats!  Our first night spent with champagne, chocolates and crab – who could want more!  The folder containing information is absolutely fabulous and beats any we have read before.  This is truly the most beautiful island and the most fantastic accommodation.  I would highly recommend it to anyone and sincerely hope we will be back.  On showing photos to family and friends, they will all be coming too!.  A huge thank you.

23rd October 2012

Fantastic cottage in a superb location!  Great break away from  the bustle of London. Walked on the beaches, the hills (Rueval and Ben Mhor) and around the Lochs.  Saw many birds including Merlin, Herons, Stonechat, Redwings etc and just totally relaxed.  Thank you for your hospitality

6th October 2012

We have so much enjoyed our few days here in the beautiful Uists of the Hebrides.  Our cottage was truly amazing and fabulous in every respect.  We so hope to come back soon!  Can honestly say this is one of the very best holidays and hold such wonderful memories to take with us.  It’s such a wrench to leave these magical islands.  Thank you Katie for providing everything you could ever want, and for the warm, kind, caring and extra ordinary hospitality.

29th September 2012

We have so enjoyed and appreciated our week here.  So much care and thought has gone into converting this ‘wee hoose’ for holidays – everything has been thought of and it is perfect.  We have loved our evenings around the peat fire and all the treats in the fridge.  Katie and John have been so helpful and friendly and we have learnt a lot about the uniqueness of island life here – thank you

22nd  September 2012

This was our 1st to the island, which was very enjoyable.  We had good weather and did plenty of walking!!! I think we covered most of the island.  Our only disappointment was, as hard as we looked we didn’t see any otters, but saw plenty of seals.  We have read all the comments in the book and agree with them all about the cottage.  Thanks to John and Katie.

15th September 12

It would be fair to say we haven’t had the best of weather, with storm force wind and rain!  However that is when Corrodale Cottage comes into its own when you have been out it is so lovely to come back to.  Even on our fore-shortened outings we have seen Hen Harriers (several), two short eared owls quartering, and otters, along with wonderful array of shore birds.  We play 10 holes (very windy) of golf at Askernish (lovely course).

8th September 12

A great week for our first visit to the Outer Hebrides.  Katie gave us a lovely welcome, after a rough-ish crossing from Oban – the peat fire a delight.  Corrodale provided an excellent base for our stay – and fun in the spa bath.  The weather was mixed but did not stop us seeing much of the Uists.  Fortunately we had good weather to be able to get out on the bikes.  Chance holiday reading – ‘The Silent Weaver’ – gave us an insight into local history and found Angus MacPhee’s old cottage nearby, now unused.  One bonus, an evening’s book binding course with Corinna Klause in Sollas, North Uist.  We are now proud prossessors of cophi books!  A special place.  Thank you Katie & John.

1st September 2012

A truly beautiful first class cottage, everything we could ask for and more!  We have enjoyed beautiful scenery, lovely walks and cycling along the most beautiful beaches ever.  Barrra definitely is worth a visiting for the amazing beaches.  It has been such a treat to end each day at such a lovely cosy house.  Thank you Katie for your warm welcome, roaring fire, champagne.  flowers etc.  We even had the treat of seeing an otter on our first day.

25th August 2012

Cottage was all it promised and much, much more.  We were delighted and especially enjoyed the spa bath and cosy fire which we lit despite weather being fine.  Our first visit to the Uists and they are spectacular.  Trip to Kildonan museum helped paint a picture.  New beach every day and all to ourselves.  Vatersay was spectacular when we visited Barra.  Thank you Katie & John for your attention to detail.  The fresh flowers, wonderful seafood and champagne were just the start of a wonderful break.  Thank you so much.

18th August 2012

Firstly the cottage.... An outstanding restoration of a traditional building where attention to detail is really something else, could not have picked a better place to spend a weeks holiday.  Having never been to the islands before and not really knowing what to expect we were overwhelmed by the beauty of the place.  The beaches, the colour of the sea, the machair, the hills.  Magical!  To John and Katie a huge thanks for your hospitality and for giving up your time to show us Lorraines grandmother's house.  An absolute highlight of the week more than we could have expected, without your help we would never have found it and for this we are grateful.  Only dissappointment not being able to light the fire every night due to it being summer.  Must return when it's cold.  Thanks again for everything .. till next time.

11th  August 2012

So many memories.  The machair. Barra. alone on pure white sand beaches, and we cannot think of a more beautiful house to watch Great Britain stack up the Olympic gold medals! Thanks so much.

4th August 2012

Sitting here in glorious evening sunshine following a week of near perfection.   Very  sad to be returning home.  What an amazing cottage, owned by truly wonderful, kind and genuine people.  Have walked some beautiful beaches (Udal, Gearraidh Na Monadh – south west Uist and beach on coast of Eriskay.  Brilliant mackerel fishing at Loch Skipport & the bakery/butchers on the airport road sells amazing shortbread biscuits.  Fabulous seafood at Kallin Harbour.  Lots of bike rides & runs & many sunny days.  Thank you for all of the extra touches.   Truly special week!  We’ll be back!  P.S Good spot for otters – Creagorry Island causeway & Petersport.  Good spot for owls – behind the cottage and road to Petersport & Loch Skipport

28th July 2012

A fantastic cottage – we had a wonderful honeymoon.  Thanks for everything.

21st July 2012

We had a fab time, just what we needed to get away from it all, lovely welcome to the cottage and fantastic area to visit.  We will be back!  Cottage was everything we expected and more.  Thank you very much.

14th July 2012

Thank you for a lovely week.  Incredible cottage;  walks, runs and bikes on the beaches,  on boats and lots more.  Fantastic spot!

7th July 2012

Our second visit to this delightful cottage, and hopefully not our last.  We have enjoyed discovering new beaches, our favourite being Udal beach in North Uist, simply stunning.  We have walked for miles and have seen lots of wildlife and were lucky enough to watch an otter swimming at Loch Skipport.  We have eaten well too, can recommend the Bayhead Shop for quality local meat and the lobster man at Kallin harbour for fantastic live lobsters.  Thank you Katie, John and Claire for your hospitality, you have created a wonderful place here, with so many special touches and a special thanks for the treat in the fridge!

16th June 2012

Couldn't agree more with previous comments on the cottage, it's been a wonderful week.  Unseasonally cold, windy, some sun - it didn't deter from all the varied wildlife.  A day out with Steve Duffield was very informative but we feel that a week has only scratched the surface, we shall have to return!

9th June 2012

Best honeymoon destination ever! We have loved everything about this cottage and island.

2nd June 2012

What a wonderful place – the cottage – the islands.  Thank you Katie & John – you have excelled yourselves.  These islands have everything – fantastic birdlife – wonderful flora – amazing hills – varied landscape – fascinating history – friendly people - great walks.  We’ve been to two ceilidhs.  Lucky with the weather – came prepared for the worst – and got the best – 8 days of sun.  Trouble is – because it has been so warm we haven’t lit the peat fire – shame! Worth going to the RSPB walks.  Museum worth  a visit.  Our last evening – went to a marvellous ‘Mod’ – came home 9-45pm and saw a stag outside the house!  Great end to a wonderful holiday.

26th May 2012

Thank you Katie for your welcome and the peat fire, the Hebridean food  hamper and the chilled champagne – all delicious.  The cottage is a delight to come home to after a day exploring those wonderful islands.  Monty’s walk at Berneray & North Uist are amazing but  think our favourite is the coastal walk at Vatersay followed by fish & chips at the Am Politician in Eriskay as we got off the ferry.  So much more to see -  hope to come back soon.

18th May 2012

A lovely welcome and kind hospitality – the cockles were delicious.  Beautiful islands, friendly people, and wildlife a joy to observe.  The cottage is very snug and we have enjoyed the peat fire.  A big thank you.

12th May 2012

We have enjoyed every moment of staying in Corrodale  Cottage on your magical islands.  We thank you for your lovely welcome.  I won’t forget coming in after a long journey and sitting in front of a grand peat fire.  The weather has been kind to us also and we take away with us very special memories.  Thank you

5th May 2012

A fantastic 5 days!  Thank you for the wonderful welcome and a beautiful house!  Even the weather has been kind and to top it all  -  no midges!!!   A 5* holiday.   Thanks.

14th April 2012

A lovely week in glorious sunshine, our red faces enhanced by the high winds.  A simply gorgeous cottage, with such warm and kind hospitality, the hamper was a very nice treat and we could get used to this!  So many highlights ... a trip to Barra and Vatersay (with a bit of a ‘Island Parish’ scene spotting) and topped off with a lovely takeaway from Kisimul Café at Castlebay.  Our trip to North Uist was via Hebridean Smokehouse (nice tastings and a few purchases) followed by a scenic walk around the nature reserve at Balranald.  How to top this off?  The whole beach at Berneray to ourselves, or so it seemed.  Thanks again for a wonderful time – we’ll miss sitting outside enjoying the evening sunshine with our G & T’s.

7th April 2012

Just returned from one of Monty Halls’ walks (near Sollas, North Uist) – superb walk.  Had a hot jacuzzi bath and now sat with a glass of red wine in front of the peat fire – fresh scallops and crab claws prepared and ready to tuck into.  We are pondering on what to write here – it is perfect.  Monty’s Bernaray walk is excellent too.

17th March 2012

We had a fabulous time in this unique Hebridean cottage.  Every luxury provided!  The location of the cottage is second to none – perfect for exploring the Uists and Barra.  Wonderful walks in Loch Sgioport and Locheynort with a haven of wildlife, also spotted an otter on Benbecula’s east coast.  Will be back.

31st January 2012

What a lovely honeymoon setting.  We had a couple of days of great weather where we managed to explore North & South Uist & Eriskay.  The rest were pretty windy but that just added to the atmosphere with the roaring peat fire!  Bit disappointed – will make do with some local ponies & sheep, neither of which seemed in any great wish to move out of the way of the car.

23rd January 2012

Many thanks Katie for your nice welcome and assistance during my stay here.  I enjoyed being in Corrodale Cottage very much and the nice peat fire.  I am sure I will be back at some point in the near future.

12th November 2011

An absolutely wonderful cottage – its  like a postcard from the outside and so luxurious within – so many thoughtful touches, the champagne, seafood and chocolates.  We’ve enjoyed cosying up in front of a roaring fire! And on our last day we ate porridge outside watching a male hen harrier, and packed our car up in the afternoon with a golden eagle flying past.  Highlights of the trip include the beach walks at Sollas and Berneray, the view from the top of Eaval and birds and otters at Balranald.

29th October 2011

What an amazing cottage – thank you for every special touch in it.  Every comfort is more than met.  The kind gesture of champagne, seafood, chocs etc.  was really appreciated.  Will definitely recommend this cottage highly to friends.  A really lovely week, thank you for your wonderful hospitality.

22nd October 2011

Amazing wonderous cottage, home from home with every indulgence - the bath!  wow – gorgeous.  We’re in love with here, with South Uist, and wonderful relaxing break – including a marriage proposal!  Hurrah!  and a beautiful ring from up the road!   Corrodale Cottage weaved its magic.  Thank you with love and thanks.

15th October 2011

Nothing I can add to better what has been said before. Great cottage, very comfortable.  Thanks very much will be in touch soon.

8th October 2011

Perfect escape from city living.  Beauty and tranquillity of the isles matched by beauty and tranquillity of the cottage.  We arrived as a stressed out Project Manager and Financial Director, rediscovered the meaning of life and left as Ian & Jan.  Simply perfect!!!

1st October 2011

A week in a place that is beyond compare for comfort & relaxation.  Special mentions to: the Co-op, MacGillivrays, and all 3 smokehouses, the beaches and the archaeology.  Top tea & cake at Kirkibost.  Great day out with Steve from Western Isles Wildlife – saw so much & learnt lots as well.

24th September 2011

We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay.  It was great to return to Uist for the third time.  Back in 1989 I came with my two boys and a tent…..  Particularly enjoyed the Sea Eagles seen displaying in the wind above an island off the north east corner of North Uist…..  and walking for miles on the machair and sandy beaches to the west.   Best wishes and many thanks.

17th September 2011

Have had an enjoyable week.  Lovely cottage to come back to.  The bath was a delight after a days walking.  Thoughtful touches such as fresh flowers, champagne and roaring peat fire, made us feel welcome and at home from the moment of arrival.  Highlight of the holiday was spotting and watching an otter for half an hour at Loch Sgioport.  Plenty of enjoyable walks all over the islands.

10th September 2011

We have had a lovely week discovering beautiful beaches and interesting countryside full of wildlife.  We saw about a dozen seals playing in the sea and on the rocks while walking at Eriskay.  We received a very warm welcome and enjoyed coming back to a fantastic cottage at the end of every day.  We both look forward to returning at some point in the future.

3rd September 2011

Great week – despite the weather!  Agree with all previous comments – Corrodale Cottage is a great base, we really appreciated all the little extra’s – including the seafood & champagne on arrival.  We’ve feasted on seafood every day – we recommend Kallin Seafood and Live Lobsters from Nick in Kallin, who does boat trips on the Lady Anne.  On our trip we saw 4 sea eagles. Other holiday highlights were a day biking around Barra & Atlantic dips in 7mm wet suits!  We hope to come back in the future, thanks again.

27th August 2011

We have had the time of our lives here.  It started with such a warm and friendly welcome from Katie and the champagne and blazing fire.  We have done so many wonderful walks, met so many friendly people, played golf at the best course ever at Askernish, and ate the best seafood in the country.  We will miss this beautiful place and its lovely people and so look forward to returning so that old acquaintances will not be forgotten.

20th August 2011

Thank you for a lovely week in your comfortable cottage.  Highlights include a trip to Eriskay, walking on the beach at Bornais and the bird reserve at Balranald.  Visits to all the local smokehouses produced excellent shellfish, our favourite being the one at Kallin Harbour.

13th August 2011

A great cottage with thoughtful detail and touches.  We have had a great holiday in the Uists, highlights have been some of Monty Halls walks and coming back to this lovely cottage every evening.  Many thanks.

6th August 2011

First class accommodation in a splendid location.  John & Katie are great hosts and all the nice little touches make your holiday even better.  This is our second visit to Uist and won’t be our last.

30th July 2011

A 5* cottage, the best we have ever stayed in – and we have probably stayed in more than thirty in Scotland over the years.  Thank you for the warmth and your hospitality, we feel we have learnt an enormous amount about the Uists by talking to you both.  We especially appreciated the sight of the sea eagle, in all, a most enjoyable week and excellent reciprocation after our week in an ‘eco cottage’.  We shall return.

23rd July

Lovely to have such high quality accommodation in a traditional house set in such a beautiful area of South Uist.  We have really appreciated the thoughtfulness shown.  Loved the crab claws and devoured the scallops plus chocolates.  My bad back has loved the whirlpool bath too.  Lots of places visited and the walks along beaches are never to be forgotten.  Look forward to boring the family with the photos!

16th July

Another lovely week.   Many thanks

8th July 2011

We have had a lovely time – fantastic.   Will be back.

2nd July 2011

We’ve had a fantastic two weeks at Corrodale Cottage.  It has every convenience possible and we will miss it.  We drove all over the islands and saw fabulous beaches and wildlife, played golf at Askernish.  Our favourite beach is the local one across the sands from the Hebridean Jewellery shop.  Aways empty with beautiful white sands.  We found lots of cowrie shells there.

18th June 2011

A week is not long enough in this delightful cottage, the fact that we have already booked a repeat visit next year for 2 weeks speaks for itself.  Thank you for your kindness and hospitality.

11th June 2011

Everything exceeded our expectations.  The islands, scenery and wildlife are breathtaking.  Corrodale Cottage is a real gem – a perfect “honeymoon” location.  Highlights include hearing corncrakes & watching the pair of hen harriers from our front door, Berneray and Eriskay at opposite ends of the Uists and the RSPB reserve  - a perfect day - with visit out to St Kilda.  Thank you Katie & John for a memorable stay and for the flowers, seafood and champagne.

4th June 2011

Wonderful cottage the nicest we have stayed in.  Lovely to have the peat fire and really enjoyed the whirlpool bath.  Barra and Eriskay our favourites.

21st May 2011

John and Katie you have created a 5 star cottage, thank you so much for making us feel so welcome.  We loved all the wonderful extras you provided for us which made our stay so comfortable.  We toured around all the islands but never saw anything to match Corrodale Cottage.  The multi fuel burner has been fantastic to come back to after our trips – favourites were Eriskay, Berneray, the west coast beaches, Loch Aienort and Loch Sgiopoirt.

14th May 2011

Lovely cottage, fantastic scenery and wildlife.  A week is not long enough to take it all in.  We have had a brilliant time on the Uists and Barra.

6th May 2011

A wonderful, restorative break.  Thank you so much for a really comfortable stay and for the special touches of your hospitality.  The Uists and Barra are so lovely; good art, good scenery, excellent wildlife and welcoming folk.

30th  April 2011

Excellent cottage & fantastic holiday

23rd April 2011

Had an amazing time in this little jewel of a cottage – there’s nowhere else on the islands like it!  Such a beautiful place and such a luxurious and tasteful cottage to return to each evening.  Highlights included otter spot behind Benbecula Co-op, cycling tour of the islands, seals at Floddah (Bernaray), deer at Langass with fantastic cairn and stone circle.  Boat trip from Kallin – porpoise and grey seals, an afternoon well spent.  Great walks and stunning scenery – panoramic view from Rueval is wonderful.  Thank you so much for the warm welcome, champagne and introduction to scallops.  Such a friendly island, both cottage and weather have exceeded expectation.

16th April 2011

Corrodale Cottage has been a special place to stay.  After long days exploring the Uists it was a delight to simply rest and stare into our own peat fire.  Katie & John have worked so hard to provide every modern comfort possible.  The cottage is quite perfect.  We sipped our complimentary champagne on our first night snug in our 4 poster bed.  The islands are wonderful.  The church and chapels at Howmore, the standing stones and Isle of Eriskay – picnics on the beach.  A quite splendid week.  Thank you!

8th April 2011

Cottage excellent.  Cooked local seafood and fish every night.  Our best beach Traigh Iar (North Uist).

20th March 2011

A Hebridean paradise, all too short, words could not do it justice.  Highlights: walk on the beach on North Uist accompanied by local “roughish yet charming” border collie; the Hebridean Catch shop at Kallin (M-F 10-4); the small yet perfectly formed beaches of Eriskay.  Loved the cottage and thank you for the warm welcome.

20th February 2011

Thank you for such a warm welcome to this lovely cottage.  We’ve had a wonderful week.  We were particularly impressed with the island postal service which delivered a few items we’d forgotten.

28th January 2011

Many thanks to you both, for the lovely experience of staying in your lovely cottage.

14th January 2011

Katie welcomed us on a cold night with a roaring peat fire , champagne and seafoodA stunning cottage which is a testament to someone with a kind heart and impeccable taste.  The islands are unspoilt and otherworldly.  A holiday in which the pictures and stories we leave with will never do it justice.  Thanks you so much.

31st December 2010

We’ve had a great holiday in this wonderful cottage.  Thanks for everything – especially our Christmas presents!  Happy new year!

26th December 2010

We agree with all the lovely comment previously written.  John met us on our arrival at Lochmaddy and guided us ‘home’ to be greeted by a roaring fire on a very cold night.  Champagne, scallops and crab – heaven!  As it was Christmas Katie had a tree, Christmas decorations and a gift for us both, a really lovely touch.  We loved the Isles and despite it being the middle of winter with snow lying everywhere, the weather was very kind.  Loved every minute.

30th October 2010

A truly fantastic cottage in an amazing location.  Your cottage surpassed our expectations in every way, including the champagne and seafood.  The landscape is beautiful, took advantage of the weather and enjoyed the white beaches.  Managed to see whales and seals, just the otter we missed, but gives us a reason to come back!  Thank you for everything.

23th  October 2010

Thank you Katie for your very warm welcome.  Your cottage was out of this world, enhanced by the flowers, champagne and seafood enjoyed in front of the lovely peat fire.  This is truly the best holiday we have ever shared together.  Silver/white beaches round every corner with turquoise blue water and the occasional seal, otter or dolphin swimming by.  Thank you again.

16th October 2010

Wonderful cottage - everything catered for.  Well done!  Superb week, weather excellent, saw and did lots. Thanks for everything.  See you again.

9th October 2010

We have been coming to Scotland for 15 years.  Each year we take a house or houses during our three week holiday.  Corrodale Cottage is without doubt one of the very best and we’ve seen a few.  You have thought about everything and overlooked nothing.  You have even arranged some stunning weather for us!  We had very little rain, lots of wind and plenty of sunshine.  These islands are breathtaking, beautiful, unspoilt and off the mass tourism radar.  We want to tell everyone about these islands but on the other hand... should we?!!

2nd October 2010

Wonderful cottage, thank you for such a warm welcome, flowers, champagne and seafood a lovely touch.  Beautiful islands, fantastic beaches, like another world here, we love it.  We recommend Langass Lodge restaurant, lovely evening, excellent food.  The owner was kind showing us what to do with langoustines!  The week has flown by, we will be back.

25th September 2010

Corrodale, so cosy- just perfect.  Stunning beaches - Bernaray and Eriskay in particular.  Local seafood very yummy!  Thank you, we wish you success.

18th September 2010

Thank you Katie & John for such a beautiful and luxurious cottage.  We've had a fantastic adventure.  Everyday has been a highlight, but for anyone who may be interested go to see the seals and explore the west coast it is stunning  but the east coast is breathtaking too.  The champagne on arrival certainly add to the first nights sleep and the air has just done it the other nights!  Thank you and wishing you every success and recognition for beautiful Corrodale.

11th September 2010

Just a fantastic week!  Arrived after the excitement of the wedding and a long journey to your beautiful cottage.  Toured the island - west Uist is just beautiful.  The weather has been fab!!  Long walks on probably the best beach in the UK - on Berneray - the seals at Floddah... so much to do!  Desperate to visit St Kilda so we'll definitely be back.  You looked after us so well.  Thank you for the champagne and strawberries!

4th September 2010

Fabulous Cottage!  We have enjoyed wonderful weather and had a fantastic holiday.  Everything exceeded our expectations.  The best holiday cottage.

21st August 2010

Super cottage with first class fittings decorated to an excellent standard.  Thoroughly enjoyed our week with highlights including golf at Askernish, trip to Barra and drive to Stornoway via Harris.  Your hospitality deserves every success.  Thank you.

14th August 2010

What a perfect cottage - built and decorated to high standards with friendly hosts.  Fantastic wildlife and great walks and scenery.

7th August 2010

We have had a wonderful holiday on these beautiful Hebridean Isles. A big thank you for your warm and kind hospitality from the fresh flowers on arrival to the exciting boat trip and the sighting of the sea eagle. Corrodale Cottage is just fantastic.

31st July 2010

We love the Outer Hebrides and your cottage was the icing on the cake!!  We felt really at home with everything - and more - we needed.  Will certainly recommend to all our friends!! Thanks
